My name is Katey Fortun of course, and I am behind the brand’s different ability. So different ability actually starts. It was kind of crazy me just being super feisty with my mom one day. I was a little frustrated with like the education system and heard parents and teachers and students struggling still. And, I actually grew up really struggling in school then thankfully my mom had seen there was something going on and she pushed and got me tested and I found out that I have dyslexia, I have a learning disability. And so that was one of the best days of my life because I then now knew that I am not a dumb stupider alone. I just learn differently. Like literally everyone in the world, we all learn differently. So back to my feisty day, I was chatting with my mom and I was like, Oh, I’m just sick of this. It’s not my disability, it’s my different ability. And then I’m like, Write that down, <laugh>. It’s like, I was like, Oh my gosh, that’s so good. So I had her write it down and I started speaking out of college, um, to different schools and teachers and events and very, very small. And I kept talking about my different abilities. And just a couple of years ago I was like, Why am I not making this a thing? Like why am I not doing more? And that is when I found you guys.

Why did you inquire to partner with the Creator’s Law Firm for protecting your smarts?

So I was on think it was like a podcast Facebook page and someone had posted something about trademarking and I’ve always had it in the back of my mind. Didn’t know a lot about it, but I’ve had a lot of people saying, Well, you started this podcast, you started a YouTube show. You did this, you did that. You’re gonna go speak, you wanna do so much with this stuff. I tell people what I wanna do because I love people being like, I’ll help you this and that, or you should do this, giving me some tips and tricks. So I was like, trademarking, sure, I guess I should probably do that. I was in this Facebook group and this gentleman had mentioned something about trademarking and I had messaged him. I, I sent him a direct message and said, Hey, who did you use? Who would you suggest?

And this is after I’ve already contacted two lawyers here locally in Wisconsin and I just didn’t have like the greatest feeling, not bad lawyers. I just was like, I don’t, I don’t feel that connection. And when I share the very interesting business I’m building and the brand that I’m building, most people in rural Wisconsin are like, What? That doesn’t make any sense. Like I got pushed back from making my actual business name Katie four two LLC. They’re like, No one does that. I said You’re wrong. Like I was like, so I had reached out, I actually did the, was it a 20-minute call? And within that 20 minutes, it just felt like home. It really did. And I loved who I was talking to and like I could tell the passion in them and what they loved to do and could see what I wanted to do and even like kind of pushed me a little bit, but like, have you thought? And I was like, Oh, these are my people. So I just, after that I was like, Done, Where do I sign? Let’s move forward. I wanna learn more. And it’s been a wonderful process ever since. And I’m just really grateful.

What nearly stopped you from moving forward with working with the Creator’s Law Firm?

Uh, I don’t think it was hesitation. I, what I loved real quick too is I, I’m the kind of person that I like to pay things up front and I don’t have to worry about it later. And I love that you had that package, you know, the packages and this payment, this payment. And it wasn’t like a lot of, well it’s this by the hour we don’t know how many hours. You know, it was, that’s what I was getting from everyone else. The only hesitation that I got over very quickly was, I’m in Wisconsin, you guys are on the East coast. And I was like, but that doesn’t matter. Like I was like, so I was like That’s okay cuz I mean honestly, to be honest, the pandemic really helped because we were doing so many things virtual anyways. So I was like, with social media and the different things we can do now, I trust them, let’s move forward.

And I just had a really great conversation with all of you guys and obviously followed you on social media and saw all the things that you put out there. And I really loved it. So the only true hesitation was more like the distance. Cuz I’m a very in-person person and I love sitting in front of someone and making that relationship and that connection. But you guys did it so beautifully. Virtually everything that you ever sent, like if you sent over paperwork, there was a video that was connected talking to me even though I wasn’t. I’m like, yes. And then when we got on phone calls of course too, that was just awesome and Zoom calls and whatever else there was, it just felt really connected. I literally feel like I am down there but I’m not. I’m in cold Wisconsin.

What have you achieved that would have slipped through the cracks without our partnership?

Everything. I mean that sounds crazy. I will say the d that the process of getting different ability trademarks was an interesting one. It was actually very smooth, but there was one little, little um, a hiccup in there, not on either of our sides. It’s something that Attorney Davis called me on a Friday afternoon saying we need to move. I won’t get into all the details, but she was doing it so kindly. She’s like, Girl, there’s something that happened and we really need to move. And I’m like finding my card. I’m like pay it. Go, go, go. Like we were going through everything cuz it was just, and it was so great. I felt parable but I also was really grateful. She let me know right away what was going on. We needed to get it into the sky you know, the whole system, all the stuff, um, into the line, right?

And you guys stayed late and did it on a Friday afternoon to get it done cuz and then she sent me a message right after she’s like done, you know, whenever it was done. And I was like, it made me feel so good and again, I wouldn’t have known that I don’t know what I’m doing. Like, so it was just so great. And even on Friday afternoon, she’s like, We are gonna say we’re gonna get this done, but I just wanted to let you know no pressure. And I’m like, Oh I’m ready <laugh>, let’s do this. And so, but I was also ready and confident because you guys had such great communication in the beginning. Like it was never like twiddling my thumbs, Where are we at? Blah blah blah. You always let me know what was going on. So for me to be able to say, Here’s the money, let’s do this was so easy and in the best way possible, it didn’t make me feel uncomfortable cuz I wouldn’t have done it if I felt uncomfortable.

I am so much that person. But I was like, do it. I was just more like fumbling where is my card? Like trying to find it really quickly. And then she walked me through everything in the greatest timely fashion and she said, Our team is working on it. I will message you when we’re done. I’m like perfect. So I mean a lot more would’ve fallen into the cracks. It was a very interesting experience. But I’m so grateful cuz I would’ve never been able to do that on my own. Never. Oh, nor would I want to. Let’s be real. No way.

What are some goals that you can accomplish & how has your leadership evolved based on the legal & business received?

You all were so wonderful and Attorney Davis was really great. Even Attorney Jones was talking to me about some things as well. What I had an interesting part about. They’re like, you need to use the trademark. Literally, days ago I received my amazing package in the mail, with two framed things. Everything. I cried, Well first of all just I, a lot of like weight was lifted off my shoulders cuz I just was, it was unknown. I also wanted to step back real quick. The length of the process was told to me upfront. I never felt like I was waiting. I have friends that were going through the trademark process on something else and they were super frustrated not getting information and I’m over here like I know what’s going on. Like I kinda like you should have called, you should have called my people.

You should have met me sooner. So I right now just that ease of like, okay, I own these wor like own these words. What? And so being able to now look at all my big dreams and goals and really start tackling and feeling that protection, knowing that what I do. And interestingly enough I just saw a post on social media about um, World Down Syndrome day the other day the person was doing this video and they said the words different abilities and I teared up. Not that it came from me, but I just was like knowing that they’re talking about, I love that they’re using that language and that conversation. But I’m like, I really need them on my podcast now. You know, it just was so beautiful. And just all of the things that I’m wanting to do next then my next steps of doing things, I just feel so much more comfortable in knowing that I am protected in whatever I wanna do and all the different changes in the movements I’ll make in the next year’s up to come.

What would you tell someone on the fence about working with the Creator’s Law Firm?

I can see it again cuz where I grew up, people are very loyal to locals and I’m all about that as well. But working with your team and the creator’s law firm has really opened my eyes to say, Hey, I don’t have to be stuck in this small local community, love them all, but I can find, and help other places. And honestly, I’m a big storyteller. I would share my story. I would share my story of working with you and saying it was nothing but amazing. Very great at answering my questions. I have a lot, let’s be real and learn what I need to do or what I should be doing, or even give me the options of what I could or may not wanna do. So really, I’d probably share my story and kind of dig a little deeper like why are they hesitating? Kind of like you asked me like what was the one thing, it was distance, but like I’m thinking of a couple of friends right now that have been starting to build businesses and wanna do more with it. And I’ve literally sent them your links, everything I said, Please, please contact them. They will take great care of you. I promise you that. And so pretty much what I do, and of course, I’d be a little feist in there and say, What are you waiting for?
