OK SO BOOM
HULU, along with Jermaine Dupri, just announced they’re working on a Freaknik Documentary.
Everybody’s grandmamas and great-aunties are in a tizzy.
I’ve even seen prayer requests that an anointing of anonymity be released to cover the sins of P-poppin’s past so identities remain undisclosed
Swipe for a lil freaknik history lesson
Freaknik started out as a student picnic in 1983.
By 1992, it had turned into a HUGE street party that drew 200,000 people to Atlanta.
By 1994, the festival was adding as much as $20 million to the city’s economy.
With big money on the table, I became naturally curious about who OWNS the trademark for FREAKNIK.
Whenever a trademark abandons it opens the door for ANYONE else to step forward and claim ownership of the brand if they have a TRUE purpose to monetize it and provides products or services.
After 9 Partners resurrected FREAKNIK in 2019 and secured the trademark for clothing, musical performances, and events.
This was a HUGE boss move, because After 9 was able to leverage their ownership to ensure 21 SAVAGE licensed (and hopefully paid them) for use of FREAKNIK® for his birthday party.
THE FREAKNIK DOCUMENTARY IS A HUGE FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITY…
